Ophthalmology has long been at the forefront of advances in healthcare delivery. Our specialty was one of the first to move from the traditional hospital setting and offer patients the convenience, cost effectiveness, and incredible outcomes of the ASC environment. Ophthalmologists pioneered co-management, leading the way for what others are now calling “care teams.” Ophthalmology practices embraced electronic medical records early, and now, with the advent of interoperability, ophthalmology is again poised to lead as we engage other specialties to deliver new treatment models and better serve the health, vision, and eyecare needs of our patients.
