Workers tend to be emotionally and behaviorally responsive to their supervisors in direct proportion to the magnitude of power they ascribe to them. Supervisors who are perceived as weak evoke little or no fear and, therefore, receive little or no respect. However, not only is a sufficient quantity of power required for leadership effectiveness; the quality of one’s power and how it is wielded are equally important.
