What if I told you that offering mindfulness training could have a tremendous impact on reducing employee stress as well as significantly increasing productivity? A study conducted by Duke University on more than 10,000 Aetna employees found that among those who took part in the study, there was a 28% reduction in their self-reported stress levels, a 20% improvement in their sleep quality, and a 19% reduction in pain. Most impressive, however, was the addition of 62 minutes per week of additional productivity. This equated to an average of $3,000 per year per employee in productivity gains. This is not difficult to understand when you consider a Harvard study showing that our minds are wandering 47% of the time. Mindfulness helps bring our minds back to the present.
