Racism and Unconsciousness Bias in Your Office - What You Need to Do About It

Racism and white privilege, and the conscious and unconscious biases they engender, are the legacy of generational and cultural transfer of misinformation, stereotypes, attitudes, perceptions, and role-modeling of racist behavior. Not only does this legacy systemically deny leadership and economic opportunity to targeted minorities; it also repeatedly denies its perpetrators opportunities to connect with others in healthy ways and to create a level playing field for all. The reawakened focus on issues of racial equity highlighted in 2020 calls for a psychosocial “lens replacement.” This article addresses racism and cultural bias and offers strategies for leading culture change.
