Cataract surgery is one of the greatest success stories in medicine with a low complication rate and significant impact on the daily lives of patients. Today, the majority of the four million cataract surgeries per year in the U.S. are performed in 1,200 ambulatory surgery centers specializing in ophthalmology. The remaining balance is performed in a hospital setting, with a fraction done in office-based surgical suites (OBSS).
