As more and more practice management professionals near retirement, or have already retired, the need to develop future practice management leaders is critical. Professional development is key to retaining valued employees by providing a definitive career path with opportunities to grow and succeed, benefiting both the management professional and the practice. Providing resources to facilitate this leadership development is a vital need and is at the core of ASOA’s mission. The LEAD Certificate Program answers this need.
Developed in conjunction with BSM Consulting for those aspiring or current managers in an ophthalmic practice wishing to move into practice management and/or increase their practice management skills and knowledge, the nine-month educational program is comprised of nine interactive modules including pre-work, prerecorded instructional videos, live interactive sessions, and homework with a new management skill topic unveiled each month. Each module builds upon the previous module to deliver a comprehensive and detailed training curriculum for the mid-level manager. The program is limited to three cohorts of 20 participants each and runs from May 2023 through January 2024. There is a limit of 3 registrants per practice.
“Specified learning at its finest! The instructors have truly been in the shoes of a mid-level manager, as many shared their humble beginnings in ophthalmology. Learning from THE experts was such an overwhelmingly valuable (but also very cool) experience! As a student, it was obvious this course was specifically designed to educate future leaders in ophthalmic administration, which is such a need for the field. Just as neat, though, was the experience I had with my fellow cohorts! Breakout rooms allowed me to learn with and from likeminded individuals facing the same day-in, day-out challenges for mid-level managers. I made professional relationships that will last a lifetime! ASOA hit a homerun with this course!”
Participants in this program will benefit from the following educational objectives:
- Understand the broader business of ophthalmology
- Learn about managerial issues and how to effectively lead teams
- Gain practical ways to address the roles/responsibilities of a mid-level manager
- Integrate patient advocacy as a top priority at all levels of the practice
