In the late 1980s, journalists Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel were asked to explain the internet to their audiences, recalled Ranya Habash, MD, medical director of technology innovation and assistant professor of ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (Miami, Fla.). “That’s where we are with extended reality today,” she said. “People want to know what it is and how they can use it.”
