In my 15 years in ophthalmology, I have witnessed remarkable changes. To anticipate and stay ahead of these advancements, we must always be looking forward to the future. By 2030, for example, one in six people worldwide will be above the age of 60.1 New residency programs are turning out about 450 new ophthalmologists annually; however, 500 to 550 ophthalmologists are retiring each year.2 This demographic shift will place immense pressure on the healthcare system, including eyecare.
