What word associations do you have to the word “venting”? Are they more negatively or positively inclined? Do you view “venting” as complaining? Then consider this: Venting is a necessary ingredient for processing events, experiences, and encounters that disrupt your beliefs or incite an emotional reaction. If you do not process an event, that emotional charge can become stuck as an unprocessed emotion that colors how you perceive similar events in the future. It is the productive processing of the event that results in what positive psychologists call “The Growth Mindset,” a key trait of highly successful people.
