We’ve all heard stories in the news media about employees being fired due to a policy violation for helping a customer in need. One recent example is the U.S. Bank employee who drove to a gas station on Christmas Eve when a customer was stranded. A banking error had left the customer with no available funds in his account. She gave the customer $20 for gas so he could return home to his family. However, the employee was subsequently terminated for violating work rules.
