Adapt or Die - What It Took To Staff During the Great Resignation

Like many ophthalmology practices, our typical employee retention rates plummeted during the pandemic as staff dealt with illness, lack of childcare, school closures, reluctance to return after shutting down early in the pandemic, or being dissatisfied with their job. Some older workers retired. What used to be an energetic and predictable work environment populated with nice patients and relaxed but focused providers had changed. Managers were consumed with urgent situations, and our training and communications efforts were sharply curtailed.
