Get in the Game: Be an Advocate for Your Profession at the 2016 ASCRS•ASOA and Alliance of Specialty Medicine Legislative Fly-In in Washington, D.C., July 11–13, 2016

Over the past several years, ASCRS•ASOA has had a tremendous impact on public policy affecting ophthalmology. Much of this is a direct result of your calls, emails, and meetings with your elected officials.  But we still have work to do. As we look toward the implementation of the new Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), we need your help. One of the most effective ways to make a difference for you and your patients is to participate in our annual Legislative Fly-In.

Each year, ASCRS•ASOA members join with other physician members of the Alliance of Specialty Medicine—a coalition of 13 medical specialty organizations, including ASCRS—to travel to Washington, D.C. and lobby their members of Congress directly for our policy priorities. In past years, participants have had a significant impact on a range of legislative issues from the repeal and replacement of the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) to EHR Meaningful Use.

There is no better time to travel to Washington and get involved with advocacy. With the recent repeal of the SGR, and the upcoming implementation of MIPS, the future of physician payment is still being shaped. This spring, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is expected to issue a proposed rule for the MIPS program. Your attendance at the Fly-In this summer means you will have the opportunity to impact policies that will affect you and your patients for years to come.

Please consider attending the 2016 Alliance of Specialty Medicine Fly-In in Washington, D.C., July 11–13, 2016. In preparation for meeting with your Representative and Senators, you will receive in-depth training on issues of importance to the specialty medical community and ophthalmology and have the opportunity to hear from several speakers from Congress and the administration.  ASCRS•ASOA will provide travel reimbursement and meals to attendees.

If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form or contact Allison Madson, manager of PAC and grassroots, at amadson@ascrs.org or 703-591-2220.
