CMS Releases 2014 Open Payments Data

Today, CMS published 2014 OpenPayments data. The Open Payments program, created by the Affordable Care Act, requires drug and device manufacturers to report payments from drug and device manufacturers greater than $10. 2013 was the first year data was released, and now payments are published on OpenPayments.gov at least annually.

There were approximately 11.5 million transactions, which resulted in more than $6.5 billion dollars being transferred to approximately 600,000 physicians in 2014. The data release today also included a group of 2013 submissions that could not be verified before the first data publication last September, 2014.

Providers had an opportunity to review this data, which ended May 20, 2015. CMS notes that nearly 30 percent of the total value of the reported 2014 data was reviewed by physicians and teaching hospitals.
