CMS Announces Corrections to 2017 MIPS Scores; Extends the Targeted Review Deadline to October 15

On September 13th, CMS announced it has updated 2017 MIPS performance feedback due to issues identified since it first released clinician feedback in July. As a result of targeted review requests filed by clinicians, CMS determined that clinician scores were not reflecting some scoring modifications such as the 2017 Advancing Care Information (ACI) and Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances hardship exceptions, the awarding of Improvement Activity credit for successful participation in the Improvement Activities (IA) Burden Reduction Study, and the addition of the All-Cause Readmission (ACR) measure to the MIPS final score.

CMS has corrected these issues, and as of September 13, 2018, these changes are now reflected in the MIPS feedback reports available on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) site. However, due to the budget-neutral nature of the MIPS program, changes in the scoring may result in changes to payment adjustments for 2019. We encourage ASCRS/ASOA members to log into the QPP site and check their scores and payment adjustment levels.

In addition, CMS is extending the targeted review deadline to October 15, 2018 at 8:00 PM EDT. You may file a targeted review if you think any of the information in your MIPS feedback report is incorrect. Targeted reviews may be filed directly from the clinician’s feedback report on the QPP site.

We are monitoring this situation carefully and will provide additional information as it becomes available. If you have any additional questions, please contact Allison Madson, manager of regulatory affairs, at or 703-591-2220.
