ASOA & NBCOE Release NEW Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) Exam on October 1, 2016

ASOA and the National Board for the Certification of Ophthalmic Executives (NBCOE) are excited to announce the release of the new Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) exam on October 1, 2016. The new exam is the culmination of a two-year job task analysis project conducted by Castle Worldwide, a certification and licensure testing firm, in conjunction with a panel of COE subject matter experts. The goal of this endeavor was to examine the COE exam domains and task outline in place and refine it to more accurately reflect the responsibilities of today’s COE.
With the release of this new exam, the domain and task outline (COE Exam Specifications) were overhauled providing detailed task and knowledge statements, as well as updated exam percentages for each of the domains. The exam domains were consolidated from seven to six, and the list of suggested study resources was vastly refined to provide exam candidates with definitive suggested resources. In addition, ASOA now offers its annual meeting COE Review Course - for sale in the ASOA Bookstore and MediaCenter. As always, it is important to note that the suggested study resources should not be viewed as a single component of preparation for the COE exam. These materials are not meant to “teach to the exam” and should be viewed as optional, additional resources which may, or may not, be utilized in an individual’s exam preparation. Participation in the COE Review Course does not guarantee passage of the COE exam.
ASOA and NBCOE are very excited about these changes and know that future exam candidates will find the detailed task outline, and refined suggested study resource list to be immensely valuable in their preparation for the exam. Visit the ASOA COE webpage to view all the new materials.
The exam is currently in a black-out period in preparation for the new exam which will be available at all Pearson Vue testing centers on October 1st.  The new COE exam application is now available for those wishing to register to take the exam on/after October 1st.
A special thanks to all who devoted their time and energy to making this project happen. We look forward to continuing to grow the ranks of our COE’s which currently number 300+!  Isn’t it time you became a leader in ophthalmic practice management?!
